B. DESCRIPTION.
Radio Practicum provides a practical experience working at
WVYC, the
You will be involved in two of
the following departments of
station operation: news, sports, programming,
engineering, copywriting, public relations, public affairs, educational
programming, promotions,
office management, underwriting, library, training, music, production,
web/IT, AM or FM broadcasting.
C. REQUIREMENTS:
1. You are required to
devote a minimum of 1½ hours
per week in each departments to earn a passing grade.
2. An above average student will devote 2 or more hours per week in
each
department.
3. As a staff member of WVYC you must abide by the station rules posted
on the
web site.
4. You are expected to prepare and execute assigned or selected
activities to
the best of your ability.
5. Attendance at all practicum and department meetings is mandatory.
6. You must notify the instructor or department head prior
to the meeting if unable to attend.
7. All evaluation forms must be filled out completely and correctly.
8. You must contact the instructor if you are having difficulty with
your
assignments, your department head, or would like to review your grade.
9. Practicum students are required to perform a minimum of 10 hours of
college
or community service per semester, or about 2.5 hours per month.
D. POLICY STATEMENT:
Radio Practicum is a laboratory course. As such, you
will not be meeting
in a regular class setting.
This means that the responsibility for your grade rests solely with
you.

assistance if
you are having any kind of difficulty that affects
your
performance as a WVYC staff member.
If you fail
to accept these responsibilities then you are also likely to fail the
course.
Please be sure you fully understand the
E. GRADING:
Your grade will be determined by self-evaluation and observations of
your
department heads in the following categories:
attendance, responsibility, initiative, quality, quantity, and
improvement.
Performance will be assessed four times during the semester, with your
final
grade being assigned by Mr. Gibson.
F. ASSIGNMENTS:
Contact the department head of the areas in which you will be working
as soon
as possible.
Work assignments will begin immediately, and continue through the
semester
while the station is operating and on the air.
G. MEETINGS:
General staff and practicum meetings will be held in C-303 at
January 23, February 6, March 5, April 2
Department meetings will be held alternate Wednesdays, or as announced
by
department heads..
Your department head may announce special meetings at any time.
H. EVALUATION SUBMISSION:
Evaluations
must be turned in to your department head by Friday at
