Welcome to the Public Affairs department! We are YCP's connection with York city and beyond. If you are passionate about controversial topics or current events and love to debate, then you will enjoy public affairs! This department primarily informs publics of awesome events and disconcerting issues in York and surrounding areas (however, we also work with organizations and departments on campus).
As a student/volunteer you will work on sweet projects. Your objectives include learning and developing proper writing, interviewing, debating, recording and editing skills. Our objective as the Public Affairs Department is to establish positive relationships and connections in York city and York College while having a good time.
Student/Volunteer Requirements/Information:
- Produce five hours of sheer awesomeness (programming) per week (time is split between people in the department).
- Contact non-profit or educational oriented businesses/organizations.
- The format of programming content is a spicy mix between education and news (journalistic in nature)
- Get trained on audio equipment if you have not taken Audio I (make an appointment with either the Training or Public Affairs director)
- Attend meetings (once a week) and keep in contact with director
- Participate in ten hours of community service hours per semester; i.e. two and a half hours per month (this affects grades)
- Most importantly, relax and have fun!
