A 25th Anniversary Tribute to York Colleges Radio Station WVYC-FM by Jeff Nuss.

Tom Gibson, Chief Engineer and founder of WVYC FM 88!

Tom's voice is on clip #1 reading the sign on for the first transmitter test on Oct. 18, 1976 at 12:42AM.

The clip was part of a promotional announcement created by Al Zachario and played on November 18, 1986 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the station.

The first programmed broadcast was at 4PM on November 18, 1976 with a live remote from Wolf Gymnasium of the inaguration of York College President Dr. Robert V. Iosue.  Dave Davies played the first song "American Pie" by Don McLean.

Back in the good-old-days, WVYC was located at 88.1 on the dial, and operated from the top floor of Campbell Hall. In my time (the mid-80's), and likely yours if you are bothering to view this page, you listened to the likes of Ken Schott, Al Zachario, Mike Otto & Paul Spreer (Morning Show), Phil Madary, Jeff Nuss, Jim Mentzer ("Time Passages"), "Metalhead Mandy "  Wagner,  Todd Ballantyne, Jeff McGinniss, Paul Yodzis, Craig Kunneman ("Cellular Panic Nightmare" ),  Jeff Best & Tracy Leather ("Rage in the Cage"), Carrie Tatem, Neil "The Fish" Essenden, Holly Kroekel, John Collier, and a few others I can remember, just not their names.

Here are some audio clips that I recorded during my tenure at WVYC.

They are all .wav file and will take a while to download on a modem.
